Awake All Sons of Glory

Awake all Sons of Glory, is a poem written by David Croft as an Easter poem, calling the Christian to wake up and gather with other Saints in praise to “Our Lord, Our Rest, and Our Salvation.” It has been put to music, and was first sung by the choir of Covenant Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa on Easter Sunday, 2003.

But he (the Angel) said to them, Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.

Mark 16:6

Awake All Sons of Glory

by David L. Croft

Awake all sons of glory gather
Lift your lovèd joyous strains
The Lion Prince, Eternal Father,
Conqueror, immortal reigns
Come praise with highest jubilation
Celebrate in sweetest song
Our Lord, our Rest, and our Salvation
With the highest heav'nly throng

The Savior's final prison vanquished
Her unguarded quarters tell
Where, 'tombed, His sleeping body languished
Christ o'er came her citadel
And stilled His dear disciples' grieving
Swallowed in adoring love
Until the heav'nly host receiving
Coronated Him above

Now 'throned in radiant regal splendor
Hymned by heav'ns' angelic train
Our Mediator, Lord, Defender
Heals all sin's accursèd pains
And rescues every lamb that's fallen
Stays the dread accuser's rage
To save from every jaw and talon
His elect in every age

Awake all sons of glory gather
Lift your lovèd joyous strains
The Lion Prince, Eternal Father,
Conqueror, immortal reigns
Come praise with highest jubilation
Celebrate in sweetest song
Our Lord, our Rest, and our Salvation
With the highest heav'nly throng
