Psalm 59

A Bible Devotion from Psalm 59

For God is My Defense

8 But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision. 9 I will wait for You, O You his Strength; for God is my defense. 10 My God of mercy shall come to meet me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies. . . . 16 But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. 17 To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, My God of mercy.
Psalm 59:8-10 and 16-17, NKJV

Don't forget that we are in a battle; and don't forget whose side you are on!

Here in the 59th Psalm we find David, again being pursued by Saul who has sent men to watch the house so that they could kill David. It is not hard to remember you are in a battle when the enemy is constantly persuing you! While it was a great grief to David to be constantly running for his life, he never forgot that he was on the winning side. Even when it seemed as though all would be lost, he still said, God is my defense, My God of mercy.

What about us? We are also constantly being pursued by Satan who hopes to take as many people as he can to be on his side, and then to discourage and discredit God's people that their testimony will have no affect on those around them.

Does it work? Oh yes it does! Look at the world powers today; how many of them truly claim God as their leader? Does that discourage us and make us afraid that we are loosing the battle?

Look at verse 8, But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall have all the nations in derision. In reality, the war is already over, and God has won! It is Satan's best kept secret; he knows he is already defeated, but he's not about to admit it, not while there are still people he can persuade to join his side.

Pray today that you will live in the confidence of Christ, knowing that God has already defeated Satan.
