What is My Purpose?

What is my Purpose was written after I wrote a teen devotional by the same subject. The poem is meant to reflect the content of that devotional.

Who am I in a world filled with woe?
What is my purpose? Where will I go?
God is my Master; His love is true;
He will be with me, whate’er I do.

Friends will forsake me when times are tough,
God will be with me; that is enough.
Jesus has died that I might be free
He is my Saviour; He is my Key.

Life’s goals are nought when God is denied;
Only His truth will always abide;
Help me, Oh God, to live just for You
Save me, and help me, and keep me true.

Who am I in a world filled with woe?
What is my purpose? Where will I go?
God is my Master; His love is sure;
Only His truth will ever endure.

Few questions will stymie our thinking more and yet remain elusive than this question. There is certainly no lack of opinion on the subject, nor is there a lack of diversity in the answers.

Some would contend that we are no more and no less than the animals. We live our designated years and then are swept into a death of nothingness. With such a view, it is no wonder that so many strive with all their might to gather the most glitz and glory they can while on this earth. Their heroes are the rich and famous, and they dream away their years seeking after the same.

As Christian teens, you know that the Bible is certainly not silent on the subject. Man's purpose is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever. The things done on this earth have everything to do with our lives after we leave the few years spent on this planet.

Those who spend their lives learning to know and love God, find that an eternity of joy and glory awaits them. It is better to spend a lowly life on this earth and gain the riches of Christ for eternity.

Jim Elliot, a missionary who was martyred by the Auca Indians of Peru stated, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."

Life's goal are nought when God is denied;

Only His truth will always abide;

Help me, Oh God, to live just for You

Save me, and help me, and keep me true.

God Bless You,

Linda
