Do You Have a Fake ID?

With the advent of technology, especially regarding computers and the internet there seems to be an increasing problem with people using fake IDs. As a matter of fact, the headline on DesMoinesRegister.com today is: Police say Drake student is at center of fake ID case.

We have a rampant case of fake IDs in our country today. This is a Christian nation, and 90% of our citizens will tell you that they are Christians. At the same time we face such moral issues as abortion, prayer in schools, posting the Ten Commandments on government property and the list goes on! Something just does not seem to jive!

My purpose here is not to face off on the moral issues nor give you 10 Sure Fire Ways You Can Know whether Your Neighbor is a Christian or not. Thankfully the job of knowing who is or is not a Christian is left to God who is the only One who can see the heart of every person.

Instead, my purpose is you! Whether a Christian or not, it is good from time to time to sit in a quiet place and just meditate on just who we really are. What are we really like inside where no one else can see us? Understanding our inmost being will help us to discern our true spiritual state, giving us the opportunity to go to God for help, for He alone can change our heart.

In Matthew 7:16 Jesus is talking about those who appear righteous and Godly, but are not. He said, You will know them by their fruits. Again, remember, I’m not talking about your neighbor; I’m talking about you. What fruits do you manifest in your heart of hearts?

Galatians 5:22-26 talks about the fruit of the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Take some time alone and think about each characteristic of a true Christian and how you do or do not see that characteristic in your own life. Word of caution: do not compare yourself with other people (that’s cheating). Compare yourself to the Lord Jesus Christ who is perfect in righteousness and holiness.

If we are truly honest with ourselves, we all will have to humble ourselves, fall before God, and ask for His help as we see ourselves fall short of His perfection. That doesn’t mean we are not a Christian. The unbeliever usually looks at a list like this and says, “I don’t even want to be on that list. Only weaklings would ever aspire to such things. If that characterized my life, everyone would walk all over me!” In our culture today we tend to take pride in being ruthless and independent, filled with conceit, and displaying a temper whenever the occasion merits it. We may not admit it, but look at who we look up to.

Go to God today and ask forgiveness for your sins; only Christ can save us from our sins because He already paid for them on the cross.

You Alone are Righteous, Lord!

Based upon Galatians 5:22-23

Love and joy is mine each day,
At least that’s the proper thing to say.
Oh yes, goodness, peace, self-control
I really don’t want to sound too droll.

Gentleness and faithfulness
A little harder I must confess.
Kindness and long suffering,
These are much harder an offering.

What? You want me to be true?
I cannot just stretch a little too?
Simply to my Lord I fall.
His love for me overshadows all.

God by highest heav’n adored
Forgiveness I have deeply implored.
You alone are righteous, Lord.
For myself, I cannot say a word!
