Thanks to God
The Beginning and the End
Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!
1 Chronicles 16:8
9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
Revelation 7:9-12
Throughout the Bible we are encouraged to give thanks to God. We tend to especially think of this in November in the United States because of our upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
Tell me, do you see a lot of people around you giving thanks to God? Even Christians, who claim to love God with all their heart, sometimes have difficulty thanking God for their circumstances. The Bible says that now we see through a glass darkly, but when we meet the Lord we will see Him face to face. When trying to understand life, God's plan, and how I fit into that plan, I often think of an illustration a college professor once told our class.
Life is like a tapestry. We only see the back side with all the tangled threads - and we only see the area immediately surrounding our own thread. But God, who is not a creature of time, looks at the front and sees the entire tapestry from the beginning to the end. As a matter of fact, before time began God had already woven the entire tapestry!
It's hard for us to wrap our arms around that thought - it's just too difficult of a concept because we are bound by time. It's time that we stop thinking of God from our own viewpoint, often demanding Him to fulfill our every wish, and blaming Him for all the bad that happens around us. At the end of time, who will give thanksgiving to God? Revelation 7 tells us!
A great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 All the angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
