Adorned with Jewels. As the Bride of Christ, how are Christians adorned? Christ clothes His bride with garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness!
I delight greatly in the LORD;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Isaiah 61:10, NIV
Christ's followers are His bride whom He, alone, has adorned! Think of the time and money a bride spends in planning her wedding. Every detail is considered so that her wedding day will be the most special day of her life. She must have the right dress, the right veil, the right shoes, the right flowers, and the list goes on.
As
the Bride of Christ, how are Christians adorned? Christ clothes His
bride with garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness! Notice
that He is the One who does the clothing, and that this clothing will
last forever, not just one day. We spend so much time trying to be
spiritual that we forget that spiritual adornment is a gift from Christ.
Do
you hunger and thirst for righteousness? Go to Christ. Are you overcome
by the difficulties of life? Go to Christ. Do you long for peace and
joy in your life? Go to Christ. Are you lonely or depressed? Go to
Christ.
Christ
is all we need; He alone clothes us with righteousness and by Him alone
are we adorned. As a matter of fact, by Him alone do we
become His jewels. This reminds me of the words of this song, penned by
George Frederich Root in the mid 1800's.
When He cometh, when He cometh
To make up His jewels,
All His jewels, precious jewels,
His loved and His own.
Chorus:
Like the stars of the morning,
His bright crown adorning,
They shall shine in their beauty,
Bright gems for His crown.
He will gather, He will gather
The gems for His kingdom,
All the pure ones, all the bright ones,
His loved and His own.
Little children, little children
Who love their Redeemer,
Are the jewels, precious jewels,
His loved and His own.
Are you a jewel of Christ?
