Spiritual Adornment. Having the right appearance, or adornment, is a multi-million dollar industry; money is spent on clothing, shoes, make-up, tanning, lotions, etc. just for the purpose of looking beautiful.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
8 Listen, my son, to your father's instruction
and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
9 They will be a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.
Proverbs 1:7-9, NIV
Having the right appearance, or adornment, is a multi-million dollar industry; money is spent on clothing, shoes, make-up, tanning, lotions, etc. just for the purpose of looking beautiful. While it is not a sin to adorn ourselves beautifully, what about adorning ourselves spiritually; how do we do that?
In
the fast paced lifestyle in which our children grow up, how does the
world affect their judgment? Is verse 8 of Proverbs 1 too antiquated for
our day? Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. Is that the message your child is receiving today?
Look
around you and observe what things are really influencing your
children's lives. As a matter of fact, look around you and observe what
things are really influencing your life! What do you teach your children
about the Lord, and how does your life exemplify what you say?
There is a progression in Proverbs 1:7-9:
1. Knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord.
2. Children should listen to the wise instruction of their God-fearing parents.
3. A person who does numbers 1 and 2 will exhibit beautiful adornment spiritually.
Pray
today that God will grant you knowledge and give you the grace to
listen to God's wisdom while denying the "wisdom" of the world, so that
He may grace you with a beautiful adornment spiritually.
It sounds so easy, does it not? Yet, living the Christian life in a manner which is pleasing to God is work! Let us diligently work for the glory of the Lord, reading His Word, praying for our families and friends, and sharing Christ with all those we meet each day. May we increase in the wisdom of God--not in the just worldly wisdom.
The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7b, NIV)
