Christ in John is a continuation of the series of devotionals called, "Words of Christ." In John we find some rather extensive expositions by the Lord Jesus Christ where He reveals Himself to be: the Light of the World, the Door, the Great Shepherd, and our wonderful Savior. He encounters real people with real issues: Nicodemus, the woman at the well, and Zacchaeus, and gives them real solutions.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. . . For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace."
John 1:14 and 16, NKJV
This page continues our series of devotions called, "Words of Christ." In the book of John we see the emphasis on Jesus as being the Messiah, the Son of God, who brings salvation to His people. This salvation no longer centers upon the nation of Israel, but is presented to people from all nations.
Christ presents Himself as the Light of the World, the Good Shepherd who gives His life for the sheep, the Door, the Water of Life, and the One who brings to fruition all of the Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament.
Jesus is the friend of sinners. In His many encounters with the common, ordinary people of the day we get to see His interaction with the woman at the well, Zacchaeus, Nicodemus, and others. Though we may live thousands of years later, we are still able to have this personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ!
His conversations with His disciples slowly bring them along to the understanding that He is, indeed, the Son of God, their Messiah, and the Savior of the World. He is the Word--the Creator God who came to lay down His life for His sheep.
The Gospel of John begins with John the Baptist, the forerunner of Christ, who introduces the Savior by saying of him, "Even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie. . . Behold, the Lamb of God!"
You will note that I already have a series of devotions on this web site entitled the Gospel of John. While that series focuses on a summary of the entire book of John, the emphasis on these devotions is on the actual words spoken by the Lord Jesus Christ. You will find some similarities when the same passages are used, but also many differences.
As God applies the words from the book of John to our hearts and lives, may we grow in Him, gaining a better understanding of who He is and how He leads and guides us in our daily lives. May we also gain a better understanding of who this Jesus is--as our great Lord and Savior.
Let us, by the grace of God, live our lives in a manner that is pleasing to Him. May we spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ to all those we meet. And, may we look forward in great eagerness to the day we will go to live with Him, forever!
