Devotionals on Love

In this series of sixteen devotionals on love, we will start with the Originator of Love: God Himself. We know from the Bible, especially from the Psalms, that God is Love.

1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

1 John 3:1-3, NKJV

Devotionals on Love

In this series of sixteen Devotionals on Love, I thought it fitting that we should start with the originator of love: God Himself. We know from the Bible, especially from the Psalms, that God is Love. Without God, we would not even know the meaning of love.

Genesis 1 gives the account of creation. Here is the testimony of the true origin of our world, the universe it dwells in, the earth, the land, the sea, the plants, the creatures, and finally, mankind. God created man in His own image. Man is not just another creature without morals, but rather he is created in God's image with a soul. How soon, however, we find that man sinned and broke the glorious communication he had with God.

God in His great love, already had a plan to redeem man from the eternal punishment now due to him. At Christmas time we celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus. Who was this baby? Here was the Son of God, coming to earth in the humble state of a newborn to a poor, but Godly couple. The baby's mother is Mary, but His Father is the Holy Spirit. A perfect God; a perfect man. Now there is a man who can truly pay for the debt of sin cast upon mankind. His own sin? No, He is perfect. He came to this earth to purchase a people for Himself. If That Isn't Love!

Why doesn't everyone understand that and cry out to this Christ for salvation? The same Satan who lied to Eve in the Garden of Eden, knowing he is already doomed to everlasting torment, is still lying to mankind so that he may take as many as possible with him.

Sounds like a classic movie theme, doesn't it? But, this is not a movie theme; this is the truth. We are called children of God! To those, to whom the truth has been revealed and have then cried out to this Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, have been granted the Keys to the Kingdom of God as children and joint-heirs with Christ!

We, as true saints of God, have not only been made in the image of God, but now we are pure. Not by our own righteousness, but by the righteousness of the blood of Christ shed on the cross for us, are we now looked upon by God as holy and pure. We are no longer of this earth, but instead we look upon Christ who will bring us to heaven to live with him in righteousness and perfection forever.

Pray today that you are truly a joint-heir with Christ. If not, cry out to Christ today to open your eyes to see the truth and cry out to Christ for salvation.

As we continue these devotional on love, we will consider all aspects of love as revealed to us in God's Holy Word, the Bible. What an amazing God we serve!
