Spiritual Assurance

Spiritual Assurance. Many times, as Christians, we go through times of doubt. Knowing our weaknesses, God has filled the New Testament with great passages to encourage us in our daily walk with the Lord.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:31-39 (New King James Version)

Spiritual Assurance

Many times, as Christians, we go through times of doubt; we lack spiritual assurance. Knowing our weaknesses, God has filled the New Testament with great passages to encourage us in our daily walk with the Lord. One such passage is found in Romans 8, particularly in verses 38-39.

I really appreciate the many "dialogues" written by the Apostle Paul in Romans; he seems to continually touch on the very things that plague us the most as Christians. Look at the questions he poses in verses 31-35.

31: If God is for us, who can be against us?

32: He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

33: Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect?

34: Who is he who condemns?

35: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

With all of these questions in mind he responds that we are MORE than conquerors through Christ.

Then come those glorious words in verses 38 and 39: For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As a Christian, your eternal life does not begin at your death or at Christ's coming; your eternal life begins the moment you become a Christian. From that point on, nothing can separate you from the love of God through Christ Jesus our Lord. Now that is true spiritual assurance!

There are so many passages of the Bible that grant us assurance of our salvation and assurance of the love of Christ for His children. Below you will find links to some of these, as we continue this topic.

Pray today that God would fill you with true assurance of your salvation as your ponder Romans 8:38-39.
