Blessed Be the Lord. Psalm 89 is filled with praises to the Lord as well as blessings to the people of God.
Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen and Amen.
Psalms 89:52, KJV
Psalm 89 is filled with praises to the Lord as well as blessings to the people of God. The benediction shown above pours out from the lips of the writer after meditating upon these thoughts.
In praise to God, the Psalmist cries out:
1 I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
8 O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
As believers today in this, the 21st century, how often do we begin our prayers to God in such a manner. I am struck by the amount of times I hear believers (including myself) speak request after request to God in prayer without ever stopping to just offer praise to this God we love and serve.
This is not so with God's servant, David. Before even uttering one request of God or prayer for deliverance, His mouth is filled with praises to God. Indeed, who is strong like unto our God? Who spreads His mercies upon us like our God? Who in heaven can be compared unto the Lord our God? And, in a world where we can hardly discern right from wrong or truth from error, mercy and truth go before God's face forever.
No wonder David then responds:
15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
18 For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.
As we contemplate these words from Psalm 89, may our prayers, too, be lifted up in praise to this amazing God we serve. Truly, may His name be blessed for all eternity. Our God not only sustains us during this life on earth, but He will bring His children safely home to live with Him forever.
As you meditate upon these verses today may you, too, be led with the Psalmist to proclaim this Bible benediction.
Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen and Amen.
God Bless you this day as you walk in the light of God's countenance.
