Doxology of Light, 1 Timothy 15. In our lives we tend to have many authorities: parents, officers of the law, judges, teachers, employers, supervisors, and so the list goes on. Which one of these is the most important? In reality, we have only one true Ruler. He is the King of all kings, and He is the Lord of all lords.
God, the blessed and only
Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and
who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To
him be honor and might forever. Amen.
1 Timothy 15b-16, NIV
Look at all of the characteristics
of God that Paul gives us in this short "Doxology of Light." God is, the
Blessed and only Ruler, the King of Kings, the Lord of lords, the One
who lives in unapproachable light, and the One whom no one has seen or
can see.
In
our lives we tend to have many authorities: parents, officers of the
law, judges, teachers, employers, supervisors, and so the list goes on.
Which one of these is the most important? In reality, we have only one
true Ruler. He is the King of all kings, and He is the Lord of all
lords. In other words, He is the Parent of all parents, the Officer of
the law over all officers of the law, the Judge over all judges, the
Teacher overall teachers, the Employer over all employers, and the
Supervisor over all supervisors.
When
we look at it this way, we understand that this has implications for
both the leaders and those who are under the authority of the leaders.
Are the authorities free to lead in whatever manner they choose? Do
parents "own" their children? Are judges free to rule in whatever manner
they choose? No! Every authority is under the authority of God, whether
they believe He exists or not. And, every subordinate serves as unto
the Lord, serving in meekness and humility, but only according to God's
Law. No subordinate is ever required to do anything that is against the
Word of God. Not only that, but no subordinate should do anything that is against the Word of God.
Why
is this true? It is true because our God lives in unapproachable light!
The light of God is so bright, so holy, and so pure, that man, in his
sin, would die if he looked at that total and beautiful perfection. What
an amazing God we have!
Think
about this Doxology of Light as you go about the duties of this day.
Pray that you will faithfully serve him in all of your thoughts, words,
and actions.
Who
alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one
has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
