The faith of Sarah is the focus of this devotion.
We often think of the faith of Abraham,
but notice that Hebrews 11 includes
Sarah in the Great Hall of Faith.
11. Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.
12. Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
Hebrews 11:11-12, King James Version
In reading Genesis 18, where Sarah and Abraham are told that they will have a son, we often focus on the faith of Abraham. It is interesting, then, to note that Hebrews 11 includes Sarah's faith in the Great Hall of Faith.
I can not easily imagine what this might have been like for Sarah. My last child was born later in life and I remember reaching the point where I did not believe I would have enough strength to deliver our son. Yet, I was less than half the age of Sarah who delivered Isaac at the age of 90!
Truly, we recognize this as a miracle of God. Hebrews 11:12 states, Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead. We know from continuing on in the Old Testament that God did indeed bless Abraham, through Isaac, with descendants as many as the stars in the heavens and as the sand on the seashore.
Not only was God speaking of physical descendants, but He was also acknowledging Abraham's spiritual descendants. As Christians, we too are considered the descendants of Abraham.
What monumental task has God set before you? Do you feel overpowered with your present circumstances of life? Just as God blessed Sarah's faith, so will God bless you as you trust in Him to lead you through the difficulties of life.
Remember, we are not here to bring glory to ourselves, but rather glory to God. What a great and marvelous God we have!
