Lord of Strength, Psalm 29. How is it that the Lord can give strength to His people? Who is this Lord?
The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.
Psalms 29:11, King James Version
How is it that the Lord can give strength to His people? Who is this Lord?
In Psalm 29, the Psalmist proclaims:
3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the
forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
I fear that we, as believers in this the 21st century, have a tendency to read these words and say, "Yes, that is the God of the Old Testament." We, however, have difficulty thinking of this as our God today. With man's so many vast improvements, he no longer needs this kind of a God.
Is that true? No! Let us thank God for the many advancements in technology and science made within our life times. These advancements, however, do not meant we no longer need this kind of a God. In fact, we need Him more than ever.
Let us remember that all of our strength and accomplishments are nothing before God. We cannot even begin to imagine His strength, power, and might. The God of Psalm 29 is the same God we worship and serve today. Without Him, we are powerless. All of man's efforts come to nothing apart from the Lord Jesus Christ.
As we come nearer and nearer to the end of time, we will understand more and more that man is nothing in and of himself. All of man's strength, power, honor, and glory are only what has been given to him by God. And, this God, who reigns supreme will never be overcome by the like of foolish people, such as we are.
As believers, let us worship and praise this God--our God. This Lord is our Lord! He, alone, can and will give strength and peace to His people.
Go
this day, not in self confidence, but rather in the confidence of God;
go with strength and peace because you trust in the Lord of Strength!
