Love Never Ends
Love never ends. What a profound statement; why is this true? We are creatures of time; time understands a beginning and an end. Time rules our lives!
Love
never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues,
they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in
part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial
will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:8-10, ESV
Love Never Ends
What a profound statement; why is this true?
We
are creatures of time; time understands a beginning and an end. Time
rules our lives! Time dictates when we go to bed, when we get up, when
we go to work, when we get to come home from work, when we go to the
doctor or any other appointment, etc.
Even
the Bible is a Book of Time! It begins with the creation of our world,
and ends with the final judgment of man and the ushering in of the New
Jerusalem. God, however, is not bound by time; He is eternal; He always
was, and He always will be.
God
is love; love, therefore, is not bound by time. God's love for man is
eternal; before our time began, God had already developed a plan for our
redemption. God's love for man never ends; He is preparing a place for
us right now where His children will live with Him forever.
This
is not necessarily true of other spiritual gifts. Prophecies will pass
away; when time ends and God has brought His children to be with Him in
the New Jerusalem, there will be no need of prophecies. Miracles will no
longer be needed; the purpose of miracles will have ended. Knowledge as
well will cease to be necessary. When we are in Heaven with the Lord
Jesus Christ, there will be no new knowledge that we will need to gain,
we will have perfect knowledge and understanding.
All
knowledge, miracles, and prophecies point to Christ. Our understanding
of Christ and of eternity is always partial on this earth. We see
through a glass darkly. When Christ, the Perfect One comes, all of our
darkness and partial understanding will cease.
God
is love; His love will never end. Take some time today to sit and ponder love -
love that never ends. We will never be able to attain to the perfect love of
God, but that should still be our goal!
