Mansions in Heaven! As we continue the Upper Room Discourse between Jesus and His disciples in John 14, Jesus explains to the disciples that it is necessary for Him to leave them shortly. "In my Father's house are many mansions . . . I go to prepare a place for you.
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
(John 14:1-3, King James Version)
In My Father's House
Today we begin perhaps my favorite chapter in the book of John. Jesus is in the upper room with his disciples on the night he will soon be betrayed. He has just informed them that in a short time He would be leaving them. Though they did not understand these words at the time, in a short while they would remember these words of Jesus and be comforted.
What a blessing that these verses were included in the John 14, as they continue to be a great comfort and blessing to Christians world-wide. We do not have to live very long before we understand the difficulties of life. It is certainly good that we will not have to endure the sins of this world (especially our own) for all eternity.
Jesus came with a purpose, and fulfilled that purpose. Through His death and resurrection He has purchased a people for himself, and is even now preparing a place among the mansions of God for them.
I cannot even begin to imagine what it will be like, but I know we will not be disappointed. Let us take comfort in these words today, and go with a new determination to live faithfully for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In my Father's house are many mansions . . . I go to prepare a place for you . . . I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Amen, so let it be!
