Mind of the Lord. Man knows the things of man because of the spirit of man that is within him. The only way Christians can understand the things of the Spirit of God are because God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit, dwells within them.
9 But as it is written:
“ Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
10
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit
searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows
the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even
so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we
have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from
God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by
God.
13
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but
which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with
spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the
Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual
judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For
“who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we
have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:9-16, NKJV
God has revealed many things to His children that are not discerned by people of the world. However, even God's children can not imagine all of the things that God has prepared for them.
I love the
explanation that Paul gives in verses 10 through 12. Man knows the
things of man because of the spirit of man that is within him. The only
way Christians can understand the things of the Spirit of God are
because God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit, dwells within them. The Holy
Spirit searches all of the deep things of God, because He is God! When
the Spirit of God dwells within you, He has overcome the world and your
desire from that point on should be to obey His Spirit as well as the
things He has revealed to you in His Word, the Bible.
The
Holy Spirit teaches us by comparing spiritual things with spiritual
things; these things, however, are foolishness to the natural man who
lives to glorify man and the things of this world. He truly cannot
understand the things of God!
But he who is spiritual judges all things.
Does this mean that it is our job to act as judges toward everyone else? No, it means we can ascertain the difference between the things of the world around us and the things of God. No man can judge us regarding the things of God.
For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
There it is! What things are you trying to crowd into your mind and
life that don't belong there? We have the mind of Christ! Everything in
our heart, mind, and soul should now be directed toward God. No matter
what our vocation, God has put us there to be a light in the darkness
that surrounds us.
May you, as a child of God, be a light shining in the darkness to all of those with whom you interact each day. By God's grace, may He use you to bring them to the knowledge of God. That is why we are here!
Pray today
that you would live with the mind of the Lord; pray that everything that
doesn't belong in your mind and in your life would be cast away by the
power of God.
