A Bible Devotion from Psalm 119 Vs 89-96

By Your Precepts You Have Given Me Life

89 Forever, O Lord, your word
is firmly fixed in the heavens.

90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations;
you have established the earth, and it stands fast.

91 By your appointment they stand this day,
for all things are your servants.

92 If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.

93 I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have given me life.

94 I am yours; save me,
for I have sought your precepts.

95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me,
but I consider your testimonies.

96 I have seen a limit to all perfection,
but your commandment is exceedingly broad.

Psalm 119 Vs 89-96, NKJV

In our last octet, the Psalmist had reached his lowest point. this section of Psalm 119, we see quite the opposite. Now his eyes are fixed on the Word of God and the faithfulness of God through all generations. It's interesting to note, that the Psalmist discovered quickly that the answers to his difficulties were not to be found anywhere on this earth. God, who is above all of the heavens and the earth, firmly establishes His Word and truth, and we are always able to find Him.

The Bible is the living Word of God (it is written on our hearts) which endures forever. In simpler terms, we know that everyone is born with a conscience, a natural understanding of right and wrong. This conscience is imprinted upon our hearts by God and then developed in detail throughout His Word.

We see the results of this in Verses 89-96 of the 119th Psalm in the confidence and assurance of the Psalmist: the Word of God is firmly fixed in the heavens, God has established the earth and it stands fast, everything in life is appointed by God, in times of affliction he delights in the Law, the Precepts of God give him life, when pursued by his enemies he considers the testimonies of God. Concluding this octet, the Psalmist recognizes that the commandments are broad and declares his total dependence upon the Word of God.

Pray that you can say along with the Psalmist as recorded in these verses from the 119th Psalm, I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.
