A Bible Devotion from Psalm 105
Oh, Give Thanks to the Lord
1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! 3 Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! 4 Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore! 5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done.
42 For He remembered His holy promise, and Abraham His servant. 43 He brought out His people with joy, His chosen ones with gladness. 44 He gave them the lands of the Gentiles, and they inherited the labor of the nations, 45 That they might observe His statutes and keep His laws.Praise the LORD!
Psalm 105:1-5 and 42-45, NKJV
This is a lengthy Psalm which recounts God's work among His people from the time of Abraham through His delivery of His children into the Promised Land. It is a wonderful reminder to us of God's faithfulness to the Children of Israel, and also His faithfulness to us today. As a matter of fact, we are encouraged in the first verse to thank the Lord, call on His name, and tell others about Him.
Much of the Old Testament is filled with accounts of God's faithfulness to His people. Reading the Old Testament helps us to understand more of the nature of God, and also to understand how He works among us. What an encouragement we have in understanding this God who rules the entire world and yet still understands each and every one of His children.
Think about this Psalm and pray today that you will be encouraged by such a faithful God who holds this world in His hands and yet stills cares about even the little things in your life.
