A Bible Devotion from Psalm 24
Who is this King of Glory?
The earth is the Lord's and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.
Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory.
Psalm 24, NKJV
Sometimes its hard to say anything after such a glorious Psalm as this without taking away from its beauty and peace. So, I will say very little.
Look at the description of the true Christian in verse 4. He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. No one is able to claim this by themselves. None of us have clean hands and a pure heart; we have all lifted up our souls to an idol and have sworn deceitfully. Who then is this Psalm for?
Only the true Christians can claim this because Christ has paid for their sin and stands between them and a Righteous God. Only by Christ can our hands be clean and our heart pure; only by Christ can we refrain from lifting up our souls to an idol and swearing deceitfully.
Cry out to God to grant you this faith in Christ. Go to Him, for He alone can save you.
Pray today that God will fill your heart with praise to the Lord of Hosts; He is the King of glory.
