A Bible Devotion from Psalm 26
I Love the Place Where Your Glory Dwells
O Lord, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. . . . But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me. My foot stands on level ground; in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.
Psalm 26:8 and 11-12, NKJV
David was a man of God who was confident in God's presence and constant care over him. He was not afraid to say, Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and my mind. For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in your faithfulness.
David also recognized that the sweetest times of his life were those found in God's house, where God's glory was most predominant. It was these times that sustained him even in his most desperate hours.
Even from his youth as a shepherd, David gave God the praise for His help in this coversation with King Saul when Goliath was challenging Israel. The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:37, NKJV
When the world swirls around us and we seem to face trial after trial, let us remember the Lord our God who sees all and faithfully takes care of His children. Pray for strength to walk in the integrity of the Lord; and for a spirit of love toward the place where God's glory dwells.
Let us also, by the grace of God, find ourselves continually in His Word and in prayer. We live in a tumultuous time, and one has to ask the question, "Where are the believers?" We must take care that we do not find ourselves so engrossed in the things of this world that we find ourselves neglecting the things of God.
Pray today that God will manifest Himself to you as you go about your day, and that you would walk in peace and confidence with Him no matter what the circumstances. May we, like David, love the place where God's glory dwells!
