Spiritual Riches from Proverbs. Solomon, a man who is acclaimed to be the richest man who ever lived, penned the verses shown above. Ecclesiastes, another book written by Solomon, tells of his search for meaning in life.
The blessing of the LORD makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22, NKJV
There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing;
And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.
Proverbs 13:7, NKJV
Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
Proverbs 24:3-4, NKJV
Solomon, a man who is acclaimed to be the richest man who ever lived, penned the verses shown above. Ecclesiastes, another book written by Solomon, tells of his search for meaning in life. He amassed a great fortune to see if that would give meaning to life (that seems to be what we spend our lives trying to achieve). In the end he said this:
10 He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver;
Nor he who loves abundance, with increase.
This also is vanity.
11 When goods increase,
They increase who eat them;
So what profit have the owners
Except to see them with their eyes?
12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet,
Whether he eats little or much;
But the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.
Ecclesiastes 5:10-12, NKJV
Look at the conclusions from Proverbs: The Lord's blessing makes one rich, and there is no sorrow with it. The one who tries to get riches has nothing, and yet the one who does not try to be rich, has true riches.
Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.
What kind of a house do you want to have? Do you want the riches of this world that never give contentment, or do you want the spiritual riches from Christ which grant true peace and contentment and will last for eternity!
In other words, what was the lesson that Solomon and David were trying to teach us that is still very relevant in this, the 21st century? We may spend our whole life searching after riches only to discover that those same riches will not bring us peace or lasting happiness. Yet, the person who never attains great riches in this life may be the happiest person alive. He or she has learned to put all of their hope and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. The riches of Christ will last forever!
There is nothing in this life, apart from God, to which we can cling; everything in this world will pass away. But, the Word of the Lord endures forever.
Ponder these spiritual riches from Proverbs and ask God to grant you His riches from above.
