Taught of God! A professional musician is often identified with their teacher; can you imagine being taught by God? According to Jesus, as His children, we are all taught by God Himself!
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
48 I am that bread of life.
(John 6:41-48, King James Version)
Taught of God
Our Bible reading today from John 6 begins with the complaining of the Jews. They were insulted because Jesus claimed to be the Bread which came down from heaven. How could that be? Who did Jesus think He was fooling?
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?
Was Jesus surprised or discouraged by their unbelief?
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jesus understood their hearts--the Father had not drawn them to Christ, and they were forever caught up in their own web of unbelief. To them, Jesus was just a man.
It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
Just imagine--they were taught of God! But, we have the same teaching in our Bible! I find it interesting that the same issues are alive and well today. Many people think of Jesus as a great man--even a great prophet, but they cannot accept that He is God, the second Person of the Trinity.
Can you believe in God, but not in Jesus and still be a Christian? No! The Bible tells us that the devils believe that Jesus is the Son of God, but that does not make them believers!
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Do you struggle with unbelief? Do you put Jesus on a shelf and dust Him off occasionally with a few Bible verses to ease your conscience? Jesus was not just a man, and He certainly is not dead. He is alive today, sitting at the right hand of God the Father.
Is He just resting? No, He is actively working in the lives of His children, and serves as an advocate between God and man. If you are a Christian, go to Christ. Ask Him for a deeper relationship with Him. What a treat is in store for you!
