Martha said to Jesus, "Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." So many disbelieved, but Mary and Martha knew who Jesus really was!
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
(John 11:23-27, King James Version)
In our Bible passage today from John 11, we continue to read of Martha's great faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you will remember, she acknowledged that if Jesus had been there, her brother, Lazarus, would not have died. Yet, she also understood that Jesus, the Son of God, could ask the Father anything and He would do it.
Jesus then said to Martha, Thy brother shall rise again. That is our hope, is it not; we very often give the same words of comfort to our Christian friends and families when a dear one has passed away.
Martha agreed, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
I can just see Jesus looking down into Martha's eyes when he said, "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
Then we hear Martha's great testimony. She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
Do you think Christ was only speaking of the final resurrection of Lazarus? I think He knew what He was going to do, but right now He was testing the faith of Martha. I would say she passed with flying colors!
What do you believe?
Let us this day praise and thank the Lord our God for the salvation He has granted to us, and for the hope of rising again at the resurrection day. May we say, with Martha, Yes, I know that you are Christ Jesus, the Son of God!
