Vows before God
Numbers 28-30

Vows before God, Numbers 28-30. What kind of vows are made in our day, and how important are they? What is the most important vow that a person can make? When we become a Christian, we make a vow to God; we vow faithfulness and servitude to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel, saying, “This is what the Lord has commanded. 2 If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

3 “If a woman vows a vow to the Lord and binds herself by a pledge, while within her father's house in her youth, 4 and her father hears of her vow and of her pledge by which she has bound herself and says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every pledge by which she has bound herself shall stand. 5 But if her father opposes her on the day that he hears of it, no vow of hers, no pledge by which she has bound herself shall stand. And the Lord will forgive her, because her father opposed her.

Vows before God
Numbers 28-30

What kind of vows before God are made in our day, and how important are they? The first thing that comes to my mind is wedding vows. A man and a woman stand before God and vow to be faithful to one another for the rest of their lives. However, many couples make a variable vow - we vow to be faithful to each other as long as it works out. If things get rough, either one can "bail out."

There was a time when a person's word was enough to bind a legal contract. Those days are long gone. If you have ever bought a house, you know what I mean. There is an unbelievable amount of paperwork to sign. Everything must be written and signed; no verbal vows would stand in a court of law.

What is the most important vow before God that a person can make? When we become a Christian, we make a vow to God; we vow faithfulness and servitude to our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. The more amazing thing is that God has made a vow to His children as well; just as God made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants, so God makes that same covenant with Christians today.

God covenants to save, protect, help, and keep us until the day we enter Heaven's gates. How amazing is that? There is not one who deserves the grace of God; we are bought with a price, the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In a day when one takes vows before God lightly, what an amazing thing to consider. We serve God, the Creator of the Universe, who by the blood of His own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, has chosen a people for Himself. To His children, His vows of love help and protection are not just for this time on earth, but will last forever. Oh what love! We cannot even begin to comprehend God's great love for us!

Think of God's great love for you, His child, as you go about your normal duties of this day. God is continually working, today, on your behalf. What an amazing God we serve. And, the door is still open for people to come in. Go to Christ today, profess your great sin, and cry out to Him for salvation. He will save you now, and that salvation will last forever!
