War vs Peace

War vs Peace. Normally when we think of peace we are referring to it in relation to one country versus another country or countries. In other words, are we at war with another nation or are we at peace.

8 The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight. 9 Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. His name shall be Solomon, for I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

1 Chronicles 22:8-9, NKJV

War vs Peace. Normally when we think of peace we are referring to it in relation to one country versus another country or countries. In other words, are we at war with another nation or are we at peace.

War vs Peace - David and Solomon

King David, known as a man after God's own heart loved God so much that he desired to build a temple for God to replace the tent they were still using. Though his heart was right before God, David was a man of war. Through the conquering of the enemies of God, he had shed much blood. Therefore, God did not want David building a house for him but, rather, appointed David's son, Solomon to that task.

War vs Peace - A Man of Rest

Solomon would be a man of rest. Don't miss the next phrase, and I will give him rest from all his enemies from all around.

Why would Solomon be a man of rest? He would be a man of rest because God would give him rest!

Is God involved in the affairs of this world? Yes. God is our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend! He is very much involved in the affairs of this world and in the personal affairs in our life. This thought is beautifully displayed in the hymn, O Worship the King. Here are the lyrics to verse 5.

O Worship the King, verse 5

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
In thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

War vs Peace - Peace of God

Let's go back to our Scripture shown above. Though David was speaking of Solomon, David was to have an Heir from his bloodline who would fulfill this verse for all eternity. Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around.

Christ, came to perfectly fulfill this promise that God gave to David. Solomon would be a man of peace, but a time will come when peace will completely rule this earth when the Lord Jesus Christ literally will sit on the throne and rule on this earth.

Though that time is still in the future, believers in the Lord Jesus Christ can know the peace of God through the Lord Jesus Christ today. War continues to rage in our world, but the believer, knowing that God is truly in control, has peace with God.

Isaiah prophesied this in Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you.

So, Jesus, the Son of God, born from the tribe of David through his mother, Mary, would bring peace on earth to believers today, and a time will come when there will truly be peace on earth.

War vs Peace - Conclusion

Trust in God! He is the only One who can grant true peace. The Lord Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God, died on the cross so that we might have life--eternal life. Peace will reign in the hearts of believers now, and God's peace will reign eternally in the life to come!

Go to Christ, confess your sin and a need of a Savior. He, alone, can bridge the gap between you and God! He alone can grant you true peace with God.

God Bless You,

Linda
