When I See the Blood
Leviticus 5-8

When I See the Blood. In Leviticus 5-8, God gave specific details to Moses for using blood offerings and grain offerings for sin, guilt, and even peace. Everything continued to look forward to the sacrifice of Christ's blood on the altar as the true payment for sin.

37 This is the law of the burnt offering, of the grain offering, of the sin offering, of the guilt offering, of the ordination offering, and of the peace offering, 38 which the Lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day that he commanded the people of Israel to bring their offerings to the Lord, in the wilderness of Sinai.

When I See the Blood
Leviticus 5-8

In Leviticus 5-8, God gave specific details to Moses for using blood offerings and grain offerings for sin, guilt, and even peace. Everything continued to look forward to the sacrifice of Christ's blood on the altar as the true payment for sin.

Our sin brings us eternal death; the only hope for life is to lay all of our sins on the cross of Christ where He has already made the death payment. We often tend to think of sin in a light manner, and yet, only one little tiny sin is enough to keep us from the Kingdom of Heaven. No man, woman, or child, except the Lord Jesus Christ, has ever been or ever will be holy and righteous before God in and of themselves.

The children of Israel first saw this illustrated when they were still in the land of Egypt. The last plague that God sent to Egypt was the death of all of the first born of man and animals, including the son of Pharaoh. God sent an angel to travel throughout the land. However, the the angel of God saw blood painted on the doorposts of the house, the angel passed over that house.

The visual picture that God gave to the Israelites by requiring the death of a creature and sacrificing His blood has been recorded for us in the Bible so that we, too, can understand the importance of our sin against a holy and righteous God.

John Foote (19th century) had this very thought in mind when he penned the words and wrote the music for the following song.

Christ our Redeemer died on the cross,
Died for the sinner, paid all his due;
Sprinkle your soul with the blood of the Lamb,
And "I will pass, will pass over you."

Chiefest of sinners Jesus will save
All He has promised that He will do;
Wash in the fountain opened for sin,
And "I will pass, will pass over you."

Judgment is coming, all will be there,
Each one receiving justly his due;
Hide in the saving, sin cleansing blood,
And "I will pass, will pass over you."

O great compassion! O boundless love!
O loving kindness, faithful and true!
Find peace and shelter under the blood,
And "I will pass, will pass over you."

CHORUS:

"When I see the blood,
When I see the blood,
When I see the blood,
I will pass, I will pass over you."

Pray today that God will see the blood of Christ and pass over you when you enter the gates of death. Only in Christ can you have eternal life!
